About me

I like making things work better.

I’m Barry Fairgrieve. My work brings together leadership, operations and an interest in building practical things that help people.

People and the work around them

My established background is in projects, people, process improvement and operational controls. As Head of Projects & Process at The Networking People, I bring those areas together in my work.

I am interested in the relationship between a person’s day-to-day experience and the way work is organised. Clear expectations, useful information and a sensible process can make a difference to how the work feels and how it gets done.

A practical starting point

Building a bin-cleaning business with my son gave me a very direct view of that relationship. We started from nothing and made it operational. Its main purpose was getting him into work, and it achieved that.

The revenue was modest. The lasting value for me was the experience of building something real together, and discovering how much I enjoyed the systems behind the work.

Still building, still learning

That interest now runs through a range of projects: a live web product, a community fixture calendar and a native wellbeing product in development.

I enjoy moving from a practical need to a considered approach, then working through the details until there is something useful to review. I care about being clear on what has happened, what is still being developed and what I have learned along the way.
